II Seminar on Cold War Studies FFLCH USP

The second Cold War Studies Seminar was organized by the Cold War Studies Group at the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters, and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo (FFLCH USP). The seminar aims to deepen research related to ideas, politics, ideology, and psychological and cultural conflicts during the Cold War period, fostering intense debate and the exchange of experiences among participants.

PROJECT INFORMATION

The poster created for the Second Cold War Studies Seminar was conceived with the intention of visually conveying the stereotypes associated with this historical period, while incorporating the concept of reconciliation and discussion within the same space.

The central idea of the poster was to depict toy soldiers, evoking the strategic game that characterized the Cold War. However, these soldiers were represented as Siamese twins, symbolizing the union of something that was once separated, in line with the seminar’s theme. The duality of the soldiers, one holding a telephone and the other binoculars, suggests the transmission of information and constant observation, key elements of the historical period in question.

The choice of blue and red colors, typical of the Cold War, highlights the stereotypes associated with the conflict. The soldiers, kept in the same color, represent a unified and weaponless dynamic, symbolizing a new approach to the theme.
This poster is part of the promotional material for the Second Cold War Studies Seminar, organized by the Cold War Studies Group at USP. The seminar aims to deepen research related to ideas, politics, ideology, and psychological and cultural wars during the Cold War period, promoting intense debate and exchange of experiences among participants.
